It’s not Easy Being Green…
At least that’s what Kermit the Frog said. Let’s
face it, "Green" is the most over-done buzzword that Business has latched onto in years. We are bombarded with messages
about how many products – including homes – are part of the Green Revolution. While in some respects it’s
a healthy conversation, we see a whole lot of the same old stuff being rebranded as "Green".
Who wouldn’t want to do better for the world around them? In
Montana we are avid outdoors-people. We cherish the western landscape and lifestyle; and we are all concerned with our household
budgets. If we can help the environment and keep a little cash in our pockets – that just makes sense. Let’s change
the focus though. How "Green" can a home be when I have to put an extra $250 per month in my gas tank just to make
my normal daily trips to and from home? Instead of "Green", let’s change the focus to "Sustainability".
We are proud to be among the first production home
builders to actually certify our homes under the Northwest Energy Star program (standards achieve a minimum 15% energy cost savings over code). While this used to be an option, we have now made
Energy Star certification standard on all of our homes.
Cottage Craft principal Layton Sysum is also an active member of the Green Building program of the National Association
of Homebuilders. This innovative program's mission is to work in partnership to improve and protect valuable natural features
and environmental resources and to promote healthier, safer, & more sustainable new homes.
Cottage Craft Homes builds with higher quality, longer lasting, more durable materials,
utilizing as many regionally produced materials as possible. During construction special care is taken to retain native top
soils which are then available to use in your landscaping.
Our
neighborhoods are not just connected to City Services, they are actually connected to the City! All this speaks to our philosophy
of living large, while leaving a small footprint.
